Traveling Home
While we always enjoy traveling, especially exploring new places, cultures, languages, and food, there’s no place like home. We were all ready to click our heels and get home. Getting to the airport and checking in, boarding, and the first leg of our trip was easy and unremarkable. There must be fewer flights scheduled (COVID issues we assume) … as we noticed that each airport we’ve been through is very quiet (except JFK, it was bustling).

We flew from Barcelona to JFK and had a very nice view of the Mediterranean coast as we turned to head west across Spain and then the Atlantic. We think we could see Zaragoza not too long after departure.

Delta served a very nice lunch on our flight. Some of us had Thai chicken curry and others had a three cheese pasta. They wouldn’t quite let us let go of the Spanish culture of having a beer or wine at lunch … and offered complimentary drinks. They even had mimosas, which is what we opted for. This was one of the best in-flight meals we’ve had … and that’s not just the champagne talking. 😁

As New York was our port of entry we had to clear customs and then make our way to our connecting flight to SF. We almost never check baggage, and didn’t on this trip, so we were able to skip one step getting to our connecting flight. It was all relatively smooth.

We had a few hours to kill so we played on our phones and ate again before boarding our flight to SF. Still being on Spain time meant in our heads it was 2am. We all slept most of the flight and landed at 11:30pm local time. We arranged a Park/Fly near SFO. We got to the hotel and hit the sack.
DJ, of all people, got us up at 5:30 … we were ready to get moving after some solid, albeit short-lived sleep. We will quickly readjust to Pacific time by getting an early start.
It was a very smooth ending to a good trip.
AND … our total final mileage by foot …
120 kilometers … or … 74 miles!
