Travel day … through Valencia.

Our time in Madrid is done.  We left our apartment at 9:00am this morning and headed for Valencia which is on the Mediterranean Sea south of Barcelona. We only hade enough time to stop, eat lunch … but lunch was in the main square. While some guide books said to skip Valencia, we thought it was a beautiful city. Had we known, we may have planned a two night stay. As you can see the weather was idyllic.

Yes, there appeared to be Valencia oranges in the city.

After lunch we drove north along the coast to Barcelona.  The landscape was much different than what we saw from Barcelona, to Madrid, to Valencia. Orange groves dominated the view along the highway much of the way and huge resort hotels popped up every so often along the sea coast.

We dropped off our car and taxied into the city center to our next apartment. It is simple but is located just two blocks from the major touristy thoroughfare … Las Ramblas. We can’t understand how we got such a deal; it is not expensive at all.

Above is the view of the small street from our apartment. We were all tired from the seven-hour journey today.  We got some instant pasta and meat from a grocery store and had a quick meal at “home”. We played some Uno and then hit the sack fairly early.

Tomorrow we have a private guided tour of Sagrada Familia and the city center.

  1. Beautiful city! My dad lived there for a year in 1991 and I was blessed to be able to visit. Love reading your posts and hearing about your adventures!
