Sitges
After breakfast and a leisurely morning in our apartment, we hopped on a train for a 30-minute ride to a seaside town called Sitges. It’s just south of Barcelona. Our main goal was to have paella.

Once we got back to the big city we decided to stroll about a mile from the train station back to our apartment. There were tons of people out tonight, not sure why. We decided to have churros and chocolate (which is a common treat that we had not yet sampled) before heading back in a little early. Cecelia leaves us early tomorrow morning to head back to the Netherlands.

By the way, we didn’t know exactly what the chocolate was like. It’s actually a warm chocolate pudding, not to sweet.

While walking towards the beach from the train station, we did some window shopping. DJ found a store that sells loose leaf tea; he bought some. Jim took the opportunity to ask the shop owner where we might find the least touristy and best options for paella. She was happy to tell us about three options, but only her favorite was open. We were definitely the only tourists in the place, which we were happy about. It wasn’t located on the waterfront, but the food was amazing. We ordered a three course meal which costs about $20 each. It was a three-hour lunch … we think we are in the Spanish groove.
We usually try to recreate food that we’ve had on a trip. We will definitely try to make paella, but we are sure it won’t come close to what we had today. Thank you to the tea shop owner for the best recommendation of the trip.
After lunch we walked to the waterfront. The weather has been perfect for our trip and today didn’t disappoint. It’s been sunny and cool, about 65 degrees. There were a few families on the beach and teenagers enjoying the area despite it being January.
We took another stroll through town before heading back to Barcelona. The streets were fairly busy and the atmosphere was enjoyable. It looked like a mix of day-trippers and locals.

And, for those tracking our mileage (the crazies like Kristi), it was a calm day of strolling…only 5.93 miles.
Here are a few more pics of what we all ate at lunch:
